If you wish to send us material for a species identification, please contact us directly or fill in the Species Identification Request Form. This form will allow us to evaluate your request in the scope of BopCo and to decide whether the request is eligible and if so, how best to proceed. Since the suitable identification method as well as potential associated costs depend on various criteria, we would like to ask you to fill in the form as completely as possible. After receiving the identification request, we will inform you about what BopCo can do for you.
Preserving and shipping samples
Samples send to BopCo for identification may involve whole specimens, body parts and fresh, dried or processed tissues. If necessary, we can offer you instructions on how to preserve and ship your sample(s). The state and quality of the samples is likely to influence downstream procedures (e.g. DNA extraction) and we therefore advise to send samples which are as fresh as possible to ensure DNA integrity.
Identification Report
The output of each identification request is a report containing the species identification of the sample(s), details on the identification procedure, the DNA barcoding sequence(s) if requested, and relevant background information about the species.
